World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

The effect that ageism (prejudice or discrimination on the grounds of a person's age) has on elderly lives is profound. Older people feel humiliated, invisible, unnecessary and devalued. They feel that they are considered burden to their families and society, as incapable, useless, expendable and obsolete. Some are afraid to go outside, others concerned about their future. The root causes of such feelings of elderly are ignorance, stereotypes and prejudice about older people and older age. As a result, they feel as being denied their human rights across every aspect of their lives.

At what age are we becoming elderly? We are getting older every day!You are getting older every day!Make sure you support a binding international convention on the rights of older people, the comprehensive and systematic approach to protecting and promoting the human rights of older people.Make your voice count!Be involved. Read the Global Alliance for the Rights of Older People (GAROP) report based on consultations with older people around the world In Our Own Words.

SRH Serbia is committed to protecting human rights and health of elderly. We are the second NGO in Serbia to become a full member of the GAROP and are already providing special support in accessing social and health services for elderly. That is the reason for our plans to take part in the comprehensive research on rights violations of this vulnerable group. Follow us!
